HENDERSONVILLE -- A screwball from Mt. Juliet’s Shelby Morris sailed inside and clipped Beech sophomore Rena Cothron with the bases loaded Tuesday giving the Lady Bucs a 3-2 win in the Region 5AAA softball finals at Veterans Park.

Beech (39-7) earned home-field advantage for Friday’s sectionals with its third win in seven days over Mt. Juliet (30-11).

The Lady Bears won both regular-season games over Beech, only to lose twice to the Lady Bucs in last week’s District 9AAA tournament.

Beech hosts the loser of today’s Brentwood-Ravenwood game. Mt. Juliet travels to face the winner.

Beech jumped on Morris for two runs in the first. Stacia Lee dove around the tag of Mt. Juliet catcher Hannah Irwin, scoring from second on Cothron’s double for the first run. Cothron later scored on Brooke Overbey’s groundout.

Mt. Juliet got to Beech starter Lauren Baker for two runs in the fifth. Consecutive RBI singles with two outs from Shelby Barrett and Caroline Mason tied the score 2-2.

BASEBALL -- Wes Robinson struck out six and threw a two-hitter to lead Beech to a 5-2 win at Mt. Juliet in the Region 5AAA championship Tuesday.

Beech’s John Wagnon added a two-run double in the sixth.

Mt. Juliet dropped to 30-7 with the loss and will be on the road for Friday’s sectional game at Franklin High School. Franklin (26-7) defeated Ravenwood 6-2 Tuesday.

Jake Harper (3-2) took the loss for the Golden Bears and Richie Hawkins ripped a two-run double for Mt. Juliet's only runs.
