MJ, WCHS vie for 9AAA championship today

Mt. Juliet, now 28-14 overall, is scheduled to play Wilson Central today at 5 p.m. in the championship game -- needed two victories over the Lady Wildcats to secure the 9AAA crown.


Both Wilson County teams have earned spots in next week's Region 5AAA tournament.


Wilson Central 2, Lebanon 1 --PORTLAND -- Wilson Central advanced in the District 9AAA softball tournament with a 2-1 victory over Lebanon Tuesday.


WC sophomore Hannah Bodenhorn (13-8) pitched a complete game four-hitter, striking out eight Lebanon hitters.


The Lady Wildcats pushed across a run in the top of the second after a double by Morgan Powell who then scored on Brittany Wiseman's single. Central added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning when Hailey Hubbell singled. Pinch runner Keily Preston moved to second base on an infield single by Kelsey Tomlin. Ashley Eldridge bunted them over before Allie Bennett singled to score Preston.


Bethany Anderson was the tough-luck loser for LHS, scattering five hits and a walk while striking out seven. She helped her own cause with singles in the fourth and seventh innings.


Lebanon dropped to 21-14 with the loss while Wilson Central improved to 21-15. LHS will play Mt. Juliet today at 3 p.m. in a loser-out game at Portland.


Mt. Juliet 10, Gallatin 0 --GALLATIN -- Mt. Juliet defeated Gallatin 10-0 Tuesday in a rain-delayed loser's bracket game at Volunteer State Community College.


The game was halted Monday in Portland due to lightning and rain with the Lady Bears leading 8-0 in the top of the fifth. Once resumed, MJ's Savannah Sanders ended the fifth with a pair of strikeouts.


Mt. Juliet ended the contest in the bottom of the frame on a two-run single by Savanna Oliver -- plating Emily Bombard and Ashton Stowe.


The Lady Bears, now 25-14, will take on Lebanon today at 3 p.m. in a loser-out game -- again at Portland.


Portland 4, Mt. Juliet 3 --MT. JULIET -- The Lady Bears slid into the loser's bracket of the District 9AAA softball tournament with a 4-3 home loss to Portland Friday. Now 24-13 overall, MJHS will face Gallatin Monday at 4 p.m. in a loser-out game at Portland.


The Lady Panthers jumped to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first and tacked on another run in the third. Lauren Woodard took the loss, allowing five hits while striking out four.


Lebanon 10, Station Camp 0 --LEBANON -- Kearston Yahola ripped a two-run homer in the first and Sara Aubuchon added a three-run bomb in the sixth as Lebanon downed Station Camp 10-0 in Friday's opening round of the District 9AAA softball tournament.


Katlin Eakes went 4-for-4 while Aubuchon also pounded out four hits as LHS collected 18 hits against the Lady Bison.


Bethany Anderson threw a five-hitter, striking out nine and walking two batters.


Wilson Central 10, HHS 0 --HENDERSONVILLE -- Wilson Central collected 12 hits in Friday's 10-0 win over Hendersonville High in Friday's opening round of the District 9AAA Softball Tournament at Drakes Creek Park.


WC sophomore Hannah Bodenhorn (12-8) threw a one-hitter and struck out nine.Central scored three times int he second inning, scoring runs after back-to-back doubles by Kendall Eden and Hailey Hubbell, which was followed up by three straight singles by Ashley Eldridge, Allie Bennett, and Lauren Stavinoga.The Lady Wildcats scored three more runs in the fourth inning, all with with two outs. Eldridge got things going with a walk before stealing second. She then scored on Bennett's double before Stavinoga came through with a two-run homer, her sixth of the season.Wilson Central added four more runs in the top of the sixth inning when Kelsey Tomlin led off with a triple and scored on an Eldridge bunt single. Stavinoga singled Eldridge to 3rd before Morgan Powell drove her in. Stavinoga later scored on an errant throw and Powell on a passed ball.
