Juliet pulled away with four runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Wilson Central 5, Lebanon 4 (9 innings)SHACKLE ISLAND -- Shaking off a narrow 2-1 loss to Beech earlier in the day, Wilson Central avoided elimination with a 5-4, nine inning victory over Lebanon Tuesday in the loser's bracket finals of the District 9AAA North Division Tournament.
The Wildcats (20-12-1) will take on host Beech Wednesday, needing a pair of victories over the Bucs to advance to the 9AAA finals.
The Lebanon loss came despite a gutsy performance from starter Dillon Hulse, who went seven innings on just three days rest, scattering seven hits, striking out seven and walking five. The senior threw 137 pitches and was not involved in the decision.
With the score tied at four-all, Wildcat sophomore A.J. Franklin knocked in the game-winner with a bases-loaded fielder's choice grounder to second, scoring Jake Lefler from third.
Kyle Hubbuch recorded the win for Wilson Central, pitching six shutout innings of relief. He struck out nine, walked one and surrendered five hits.
Lebanon jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first and led 4-3 until the Wildcats tied the score in the bottom of the seventh.
First baseman Conner Harris went 3-for-4 and drove in a run with singles in the fifth, seventh, and ninth innings. Eddie McDaniels added three hits as Lebanon finished with 12 hits -- all singles.
Wilson Central pushed one run across in each of the second, seventh and ninth. In the second, Wilson Central scored on an RBI single by Braxton McFarlin, bringing home Dalton McCorkle.
The Wildcats scored two runs in the third on an RBI single by Reynolds Wehunt and a bases-loaded walk by Braxton McFarlin.
Kyle Hubbuch and McCorkle each had two hits for WCHS while McFarlin drove in two runs.
Lebanon closed the season 8-23 overall, sandwiching a pair of one-run losses in the tournament around a 17-6 win over Portland.
Mt. Juliet 4, Station Camp 2 --MT. JULIET -- The Golden Bears earned a spot in Thursday's District 9AAA championship game following a 4-2 victory over Station Camp Tuesday in the 9AAA South Division Championship game.
Now 23-11 overall, Mt. Juliet will play either Beech or Wilson Central for the 9AAA title and the right to host a first round home game in the regional.
Righty Brandon Smith kept the Bison at bay, throwing a complete game five-hitter. He struck out two and allowed two unearned runs.
Mt. Juliet broke open a 1-1 game with a pair of runs in the second on an RBI double by Hunter Gilbert and a single by Cody Carr.
Lebanon 17, Portland 6 --SHACKLE ISLAND -- Lebanon pounded out 19 hits against three Portland pitchers in Monday's 17-6 six-inning win over over the Panthers in a District 9AAA loser-out contest.
Senior catcher Jay Pittman led the Blue Devil hit parade going 4-for-5 with three RBI. Eddie McDaniels and winning pitcher Conner Harris each added three hits while Taylor Bryan, Bryce Lester, Jackson Arnold and Nolan Chambers rapped out two hits apiece. Harris, Bryan and Pittman each drove in three runs.
Harris worked around some early defensive lapses to throw a complete game, scattering eight hits, allowing just two earned runs and striking out two. He walked one batter.
Trailing 6-4 after two complete, LHS broke the game open with six runs in the top of the third on an RBI single by McDaniels, an RBI single by Lester, an RBI single by Pittman, an RBI single by Bryan, a sacrifice fly by Dillon Hulse, and an RBI single by Harris.
The Blue Devils tacked on four more runs in the fourth as Pittman started the inning with a single, bringing home Arnold and McDaniels. That was followed up by Bryan's two-run single down the third base line, plating Lester and Jake Manning.
The teams traded runs for most of the early going, leading to five lead changes.
WCHS 7, Portland 0 -- SHACKLE ISLAND -- Wilson Central advanced in the winner's bracket of the District 9AAA baseball tournament with a 7-0 victory over Portland Friday evening at Beech.
The win upped the Wildcat record to 19-11-1 and sets up a7 p.m. Mondaymatchup vs. North Division champion Beech -- a 3-2 winner over Lebanon in Friday's nightcap.
Wilson Central put Friday's game pretty much on ice with a six-run outburst in the bottom of the first inning.
Starting pitcher Kyle Hubbuch took over from there, limiting the Panthers to just three hits over his five-inning stint while stiking out seven. Jake Lefler and Kyle Schmitt each worked an inning of relief.
Hubbuch helped his own cause with a pair of doubles and drove in a run. Lefler and sophomore A.J. Franklin each had two RBIs.
Beech 3, LHS 2, 8 innings --SHACKLE ISLAND -- Host Beech moved on into the District 9AAA winner's bracket with a 3-2, extra innings victory over Lebanon Friday night.
Blue Devil starter Dillon Hulse and and his counterpart Christopher Carroll each worked around trouble most of the night. Hulse scattered eight hits and struck out six while walking six. Carroll allowed seven hits, struck out eight and walked one.
Both Beech and Lebanon posted one run in their first at-bats, and the Bucs took their first lead in the bottom of the third. Fittingly, the Blue Devils tied the game immediately in the top of the fourth at 2, and that's where the score stayed until the eighth inning. Chris O'Guinn grounded a hard single to left, scoring Austin Linville from third with the game-winning run for Beech.
Lebanon's Taylor Bryan finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Catcher Jay Pittman went 2-for-4.
The Blue Devils (7-21) are scheduled to play Portland Monday at4 p.m. in a loser-out game.
Mt. Juliet 4, HHS 3, 8 innings --MT. JULIET -- The Golden Bears rallied from three runs down to score a 4-3 victory over Hendersonville in Friday's opening round action of the District 9AAA baseball tournament.
Mt. Juliet, now 21-11 overall, moves on to a 5 p.m. Sunday game vs. Station Camp -- a 3-0 winner over Gallatin earlier Friday.
Marshall Gei's RBI single in the bottom of the eighth scored Hunter Gilbert with the game-winning run.
Austin Smith (5-1) worked all eight innings for the pitching decision, allowing just two hits and striking out eight.
