After a brief search Thursday, a 22-year-old man wanted for statutory rape in Georgia was apprehended by Mt. Juliet police after the suspect shared his wanted status with a McDonald's employee.

At around 11:30 a.m., the MJPD received information that Michael Steven Lee was at the McDonald's located at 126 North Mt. Juliet Road. He was wanted for statutory rape of a child under 16 years old out of Thomas County, Ga.

Police said they were made aware Lee was being sought by Georgia authorities because he told a restaurant employee he was wanted by police. The employee then told a McDonald's patron, who notified police.

Prior to officers' arrival at the restaurant to take Lee into custody, he fled toward the Stonegate mobile home community. Officers with the MJPD located Lee roughly an hour later when an undercover crime suppression unit officer spotted him and gave chase.

Lee was booked into the Wilson County Jail and was awaiting extradition to Georgia at press time Thursday.
