Husbands and children take note: Mother's Day is Sunday, May 10, and it is a day worthy of celebration. After all, without mothers, none of us would be here.
Thanks to tips from local moms, The Wilson Post has outlined a set of "Dos" for Mom's special day this year.
Do: Listen to Her
We have all heard stories about the husband who was "in the doghouse" for giving his wife a vacuum cleaner or power tool as a gift. However, Jenni Powell and Becky Dungy of Watertown Flower Shop shared funny stories about times they requested these.
Powell said she was given a central vacuum system because she "wanted it."
"Mine was actually an anniversary and I wanted a weed eater," Dungy added. "If your wife or mother asks for something specific - don't question it. Just get it."
Do: Pamper Her
Pampering doesn't necessarily translate to pricey. Pampering Mom on Sunday can come in many forms.
Mandy Pryor, wife of Dentist Aaron Pryor, said her favorite gift was a day by the pool with her family. "It was followed by a steak dinner grilled by my honey and a spotless kitchen afterward compliments of my kids," she said. "I love his steak and loathe cleaning the kitchen. That's the best gift ever."
If beauty and spa treatments are more Mom's thing, there are plenty to choose from in Wilson County. Cumberland Skin is currently offering a slew of May specials, including Skin Ceuticals packages and 25 percent off Juvederm and Voluma.
Cumberland Skin Medical Assistant Ashley Hale showed a variety of sunscreens and other skin products before dishing on her Mother's Day wish. "Just having some me-time, getting my nails done. Moms are busy and always on-the-go. There is not a lot of free time for pampering," she said.
Beauty Boutique has made shopping for Mom simple with eight Mother's Day spa packages. Package One is $65 for the treat of a body scrub and spray tan - and the options don't stop there. Package Two offers a 30-minute relaxation massage and express facial for $95. For a complete list of packages and pricing call Beauty Boutique at 615-547-4468.
Do: Make it Personal
Melinda Ledford, mother to Tanner Ledford, 26, and Ali and Leah Ledford, 21, said one of her favorite gifts was a year when she received a photo book with "beautiful pictures of my babies and our sweet times together."
"It expressed appreciation so beautifully," she said.
Home Instead Senior Care owner Maggie Lea said that she has already received her Mother's Day present for 2015 and called it "the best."
"I am getting jewelry with my son Spencer's birthstone. It is something I can wear to keep him close and hopefully pass on to him so he will remember me," she said. "I am lucky because I love his birthstone - diamond."
Powell added that she also loves a homemade card. "My daughter gave me a piece of construction paper that was cut out in the shape of MOM. It was so sweet. It said things like, 'My mom is pretty. My mom is a girl" - which I thought was funny."
Flowers, of course, are a classic gift to send your Mother whether she lives nearby or in another state. Dungy at Watertown Flower Shop listed lilies and roses as the most popular blooms for the holiday.
If you find yourself out of Mother's Day ideas and empty handed on Saturday night - remember hugs and "thank yous" are also appreciated.
