Mt. Juliet softball places 2nd in Commando Classic

Sanders scattered 12 hits and and struck out five as the Lady Bears committed two erros to help the Lady Warriors cause. Fellow freshman Hannah Sheppard tossed a scoreless inning for the Lady Bears in the seventh.

Mt. Juliet finished with sevens hits, with Savanna Oliver leading the way with a two-run double in the sixth.

Lauren Woodard finishing with two hits and Brittany Graves, Rachel Atnip, Lauren Payne, and Shelby Woodard rounding out the offensive attack with one hit each.

Atnip, Lauren Woodard, Graves and Taylor were named to the all-tournament team for the Lady Bears.

"Not a bad start, but we definitely have room for improvement and I feel good about our chances everytime we take the field," said first year MJ head coach Brad Rowlett.

MJHS opened tournament play with a 7-1 win over Memphis Bolton, followed by a 5-0 victory over Overton High of Nashville. The Lady Bears downed LaVergne 9-4, then blanked Creek Wood 5-0. They earned a berth in the finals with a 9-1 victory over Chattanooga Central.

Mt. Juliet will return to action witha 5 p.m. home game Thursday against District 9AAA rival Portland; then will visit Murfreesboro Oakland Friday for a 5 p.m contest.
