BA tops Wilson Central
GLADEVILLE -- Nineteen turnovers proved to be too much to overcome Saturday afternoon as Brentwood Academy defeated Wilson Central 43-27 in the opening game of the Wilson County Showcase.
The loss snapped Wilson Central's 18-game winning streak to start the season while BA improved to 13-3.
The Lady Eagles led 12-4 early, but Coach John Wild's club tied the score at 17-all headed into halftime thanks to a 13-5 second quarter run.
Taylor Tucker and Addison Byrd paced WCHS with 10 points each while ninth grader Lindsay Freeman finished with eight.

LHS girls; 11 individuals qualify
FRANKLIN -- Lebanon High's girls bowling team blasted their way into this weekend's state tournament with a 21-6 victory over Ravenwood Saturday in the TSSAA sectionals at the Franklin Lanes.

With the win, the Lady Devils moved to 21-1 on the season and earned a berth in the eight-team tournament which cranks up Friday afternoon at the Smyrna Bowling Center.

CU BASEBALL -- Leadoff dinner slated

Jeff Luttrell to be honored
Cumberland baseball will host its annual Leadoff Dinner and Auction at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27 in the Benton Jennings Center on the CU campus.

The evening includes a silent and live auction of baseball memorabilia as well as other donated items, with all proceeds benefitting the CU baseball program.

Cumberland will honor former player Jeff Luttrell during this year's festivities.

Central downs Rossview
GLADEVILLE -- Host Wilson Central held off a late Rossview run for a 58-47 win over the Hawks in Saturday's Wilson County Showcase.
The Wildcats, now 11-7 overall, went 11-for-11 at the free throw line in the final eight minutes to clinch the victory.
Colt Booth finished with 20 points for Central while Zay Kern had eight and Kito Aruh seven.
On Friday night, the Wildcats went on the road for a 57-39 victory at Portland.
Kene Aruh led the way with 13 points, Naz Czeskleba and Booth each had 11.
Central plays at Mt. Juliet Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Former Mt. Juliet High standout
Belmont University's Sally McCabe garnered Tennessee Sports Writers Association Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors Tuesday, Jan. 110.

The Mt. Juliet High graduate averaging 15.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 5.5 blocks in a pair of victories for the Bruins.

McCabe posted 12 points, seven rebounds and four blocks in a 71-66 victory over UT Martin.

Former Wilson Central all-stater
INDIANAPOLIS - Trevecca Nazarene University guard Jacob Williams (JR/Lebanon) was named this week's Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week Monday, Jan. 9.

Williams played a large part in helping guide the Trojans to two conference victories on the road this weekend, including a thrilling overtime win Thursday at Cedarville. The two wins moved the Trojans to 5-11 overall on the season.

MJ's Wilson earns TSWA honor
Mt. Juliet High volleyball standout SaraGrace Wilson has been named Class AAA All-State by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association.

An outside hitter for the Lady Bears, she will attend Troy University on scholarship this fall.

The senior helped lead Mt. Juliet to a record of 29-5 and the District 9-AAA regular season championship.

WATERTOWN -- Goodpasture used a balanced scoring attack to down host Watertown 73-68 Tuesday night in the District 8-A opener for both teams.
The Cougars (11-1 / 0-1) saw three players reach double figures while Purple Tiger senior Seth Price was pretty much a one-man show.
Price drilled seven 3-pointers and finished with 36 points.

FCS closes with two tourney wins
JAMESTOWN -- Friendship Christian improved to 6-7 on the season following Saturday morning's 62-48 victory over Tullahoma in the consolation bracket of the Hall's Sgt. York Southeastern Christmas Invitational.
Commander forward Hanley Sobieszczyk led all scorers with 21 points, and earned a spot on the all-tournament team.
Joe Greenwood added 12 points while Jake Blair had 11 and Zach Blair nine.

NASHVILLE -- Leading 36-35 headed into the fourth quarter, Wilson Central closed out Mt. Juliet on a 20-9 run in Friday's 56-44 win over the Lady Bears in the finals of the John Overton Christmas Tournament.
The Lady Wildcats moved to 16-0 with the victory, headed into their 2017 opener -- a District 9-AAA home game Friday evening, Jan. 6 against Gallatin.
Ninth grader Lindsey Freeman paced Wilson Central with 21 points while Piper Elrod and Addison Byrd each added 13.

NASHVILLE -- J.R. Sanders connected on a 15-footer at the buzzer, lifting Mt. Juliet to a 54-52 win over Nashville's Martin Luther King, Jr. Magnet in Wednesday's consolation round of the Willie Brown Memorial Tournament at Father Ryan High.

The Golden Bears improved to 8-7 with the victory, headed into a Thursday afternoon fifth place game.

A pair of Watertown High football players have been named to the prestigious Tennessee Sports Writers Association Class 2A all-state team.

Two-way standout Rusty Staats was voted in as an offensive lineman while record-setting quarterback Seth Price was one of two signal callers named to the postseason team.
