Neuble, Jackson lead the way
LEBANON -- Veterans Tay Jackson and Kobe Neuble helped pave the way for Lebanon's 58-54 Senior Night win over Gallatin Friday at Campbell Brandon Gymnasium.

Jackson led all scorers with 23 points and Neuble added 13 of his 17 points in the second half as Jim McDowell's Blue Devils improved to 19-5 overall and 9-3 in District 9-AAA.

    WEST POINT, Ga. -- Sophomore Curt Hoppe tossed four shutout innings of relief for the victory and Nick McGrew drove home Tyler Yorko with the winning run in the 10th inning as Cumberland claimed a 4-3 victory over Point University Friday in the season opener for both teams.

    The Phoenix and Skyhawks finish the series Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. Central Time.

    MARIETTA, Ga. - Life University used a 13-4 run to open the second half and never looked back in a 92-71 victory over Cumberland Thursday night at The Eagles' Nest.

    The Phoenix (10-13, 3-7 Mid-South) and Running Eagles (12-8, 6-5) were tied at 34 with less than two minutes left in the first half, but Life netted the final six points of the period and then started the second half with the 13-4 spurt, with Williams scoring six points and Dantzler adding four during the stretch.

Player of the Week
LEBANON -- Cumberland's Bre Neal was voted the Mid-South Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday after posting her fourth double-double of the season at Middle Georgia State in CU's only game.

The Memphis native posted a career-best 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds along with three assists and three steals in a 75-68 win over the Knights. The senior hit 7-of-12 shots and was 5-for-6 at the foul line.

Running Eagles outgun CU 102-98
LEBANON -- Life University nailed a dozen triples and Dalarian Williams netted a game-high 27 points in a 102-98 victory over Cumberland Thursday night at the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center.

The Phoenix (9-12, 2-6 Mid-South) shot 59 percent from the field and hit nine 3-pointers, but Life put together a 22-7 spurt to end the first half and then held off CU in the second period.

For a group of kids who weren't supposed to be ready to wrestle at the varsity level, Wilson County's "fantastic five" group of ninth graders have more than answered the bell.

"We lost a big group of seniors from last year," said Central coach John Kramer. "But we've had a fantastic group of freshman step into varsity roles and they are a big reason why we are doing so well."

Wildcats now 31-5 in dual meets
MARYVILLE -- Wilson Central's wrestling team swept five matches over the weekend to win the Heritage High Duals.

The Wildcats improved to 31-5 on the season, recording wins over Jefferson County (75-12), Wayne County (69-12), Anderson County (75-3), Tennessee High (59-21) and No. 2-ranked Beech (38-32).

LHS boys top Beech 58-56
LEBANON -- A fadeaway putback by Cameron Oliver and a pair of clutch free throws by Kobe Neuble helped lead Lebanon to a 58-56 overtime win over Beech Friday at Campbell Brandon Gymnasium.

Oliver wound up on his backside after flipping home a missed shot to open the extra period, then pulled a clutch rebound following a Buc miss on the other end of the floor.

Central wins Wildcat Invitational
GLADEVILLE -- Wilson Central saw five wrestlers bring home first place finishes and took top team honors in Saturday's Wildcat Invitational.

WCHS scored 240 points as 13 grapplers placed in the top four of their weight classes. Chattanooga Baylor finished second at 222, Beech placed third at 175 and Blackman 169 in the ten-team tournament.

LHS swept at Station Camp
GALLATIN -- Station Camp swept a District 9-AAA doubleheader from Lebanon High Friday, Jan. 8.

The Devilettes dropped a 58-49 decision to SC in Friday's opener, despite 14 points from Kendra Brown and eight from Ireland Elie. LHS slid to 8-10 overall and 1-3 in District 9-AAA.

The nightcap found Station Camp improving to 18-0 on the season (4-0 in the district) with a 69-64 win over the Blue Devils (13-3, 3-1).

Seven headed to state as individuals
SMYRNA -- Wilson Central's Lady Wildcats bowling team captured the District 12 tournament title with a 21.5 to 5.5 win over Lebanon in Tuesday afternoon's finals at the Smyrna Bowling Center.

Kayla Hubbuch rolled a 194 and Rickie Denson had a 181 for Central.
