Phoenix women play Campbellsville
Cumberland women's soccer will face Campbellsville University at 5 p.m. on Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Mid-South Conference Championships in Bowling Green, Ky., as announced Monday by the league office.
The Phoenix, 10-3-2 overall and 5-1-1 in Mid-South play, lost the tiebreaker for the No. 2 in the eight-team tournament by virtue of the league's third tiebreaker - common opponents.
Phoenix fall to 4-1 in MSC
LEBANON -- Yudai Yamaguchi and Ignacio Mangada each posted a goal and an assist, as eighth-ranked Campbellsville University scored three times in the final 18 minutes in a 3-1 victory over No. 23 Cumberland Tuesday at Lindsey Donnell Stadium-Kirk Field.
The match was scoreless for more than 70 minutes, with Cumberland (8-4-1, 4-1-0 Mid-South) missing a couple of good scoring chances early and another midway through the second half, but the depth of the Tigers (9-0-1, 2-1-0) showed as the match wore on.
Alpin scores two goals
LEBANON -- Mariah Aplin scored twice and handed out an assist, as 12th-ranked Cumberland netted four second-half goals in a 4-0 victory over Campbellsville University in women's soccer action Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 12 at Lindsey Donnell Stadium-Kirk Field.
The Phoenix (10-1-1, 5-0-0 Mid-South) and Tigers (8-5-0, 0-3-0) were scoreless at intermission with nine combined shots, most of those in the final 10 minutes, but the home team broke through early in the second period.
Daniel Williams & Bennet Strutz
LEBANON -- Cumberland sophomores Daniel Williams and Bennet Strutz were voted the Mid-South Conference Men's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, on Monday for their efforts in a 3-1 road victory by the Phoenix against No. 21 Lindenwood-Belleville, as announced by the league office.
Strutz made five saves and improved to 8-3-1 in net this season in the 3-1 win.
Williams scores 3 for Phoenix
LEBANON -- Daniel Williams netted a hat trick and Elliot Goodwin, Brian McNamara and Marty Owens each posted a goal and an assist, as 19th-ranked Cumberland overcame a shaky start en route to a 6-3 victory over Milligan College in men's soccer action here Monday at Lindsey Donnell Stadium-Kirk Field.
The Phoenix (1-1-0) fell behind 2-0 in the first eight minutes and trailed 3-1 after an own goal in the 29th minute, but Williams and Elliot both found the back of the net before intermission and McNamara's penalty kick, after Elliot drew the foul in the box, in the 51st minute put the home team ahead for good.
CU hosts Campbellsville Oct. 28
PORTSMOUTH, OH -- Junior Elliot Goodwin netted a pair of goals and eighth-ranked Cumberland overcame a sluggish start to post a 2-1 victory over Shawnee State in men's soccer action Saturday.
The Bulldogs (15-0-0, 6-0-0 Mid-South) remained perfect on the season despite allowing a goal for the first time in over 300 minutes of action.
Owens has two goals in Wednesday win
WILMORE, KY -- Marty Owens sandwiched the first and last goals around a Brian McNamara score in eighth-ranked Cumberland's 3-0 victory Wednesday night over Asbury University.
The Bulldogs upped their record to 14-0-0 this season and posted their third straight shutout and sixth in the last eight matches
Bulldogs stand 11-0
LEBANON - Cumberland is ranked 13th in the 2015 NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll, the team's highest ranking ever, as announced by the national office on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs are 11-0-0 after Tuesday's 2-1 victory at NCAA D-II Delta State and defeated then seventh-ranked Lindsey Wilson this past Saturday at home, 2-1. Cumberland has allowed three total goals in its last six outings and seven in nine matches.
Bulldogs undefeated at 10-0-1
LEBANON -- Josh Armstrong scored in the first 10 minutes and he assisted on Brian McNamara's goal six minutes later, as Cumberland scored twice in the opening minutes and held off seventh-ranked Lindsey Wilson in men's soccer action Saturday, Oct. 3 at Lindsey Donnell Stadium-Kirk Field.
Former Cumberland head coach
Jeff Loucks, former coach at Lebanon High and Cumberland University, will head the soccer program at Wilson Central High school.
According to athletic director / assistant principal Chip Bevis, Loucks will join the WCHS faculty as a chemistry teacher and will coach the girls team in the fall and the boys team in the spring.
LEBANON -- Cumberland's Lindsay Kitson garnered NAIA First Team All-America honors while Shauna Gilpin was voted Second Team and Kaitlin Phillips, Reneé LaRose and Olivia Chu were all named Honorable Mention, as selected by the NAIA All-America Committee and announced by the national office Monday, Dec. 8.
The NAIA All-America Committee, which consists of the NAIA-Women's Soccer Coaches Association officers and seven additional women's soccer coaches, select the three 11-member teams.
Saturday vs. Rio Grande --
LEBANON -- Cumberland women's soccer will host the University of Rio Grande in the NAIA Championship Opening Round Saturday at 1 p.m. at Lindsey Donnell Stadium-Kirk Field. The NAIA announced the 30-team Opening Round field Monday afternoon.
The winner of Saturday's match advances to the NAIA Championships final site in Orange Beach, Ala. The Bulldogs are ranked 11th nationally and stand 15-3-1 overall this season.
LEBANON -- Sophomore Sammy Groves netted a hat trick and assisted on two other goals while Shauna Gilpin and Kaitlin Phillips each scored twice in 8th-ranked Cumberland's 10-0 victory over Shawnee State in women's soccer action Sunday at Lindsey Donnell Stadium-Kirk Field.
The Bulldogs (7-0-1, 2-0-0 Mid-South) took a while to find a groove against a very high backline for the Bears, with CU called offsides six times in the opening period.
