Deadly 109 intersection gets signs, but no stoplight until 2017

After a series of articles in The Wilson Post focused on the situation, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) started investigating the need for added traffic control.

The study determined that the intersection did need additional stop and warning signs, which have now been installed. A stoplight also is needed, according to TDOT spokesperson Heather Jensen, but it won't be installed until it can be included in the widening project for North 109 that is scheduled for 2017 at the earliest.

FRIDAY, NOV. 7 -- "Immediate safety improvements" will be installed at the Hwy. 109/Academy Rd. intersection next week, according to Tennessee Department of Transportation Community Relations and Communications Director B.J. Doughty.

In an email sent to The Wilson Post Friday, Doughty confirmed that TDOT will be installing improved signage on both Hwy. 109 and Academy Rd. with flashing caution lights (beacons) and enhanced striping. The changes will be made within the next seven days.

Police ID fatal accident victim

Lebanon Police have identified the victim of a fatal accident that occurred about 7:15 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 12, near 128 Rocky Road.

Cody Austin, 28, of Lebanon, was killed in the accident. Police said upon arrival at the scene, they found that Austin, who was driving a 2001 Dodge pickup truck, had been ejected from the vehicle.
