Mt. Juliet Police Detective Frank DeRiggi was recently honored by the United States Department of Justice and U.S. Attorney David Rivera at a ceremony in Nashville.

DeRiggi was among 40 individuals who received a United States Attorney Award for Excellence in Law Enforcement.

The award is the result of a federal case DeRiggi investigated in 2015. He was the lead detective on a case where two criminal organizations were trafficking drugs in Middle Tennessee involving clandestine anabolic steroids and heroin. Due to DeRiggi's efforts, those organizations were dismantled, and the leaders were arrested and sentenced. Ultimately, at the conclusion of the investigation, 19 individuals were arrested and large amounts of U.S. currency, steroids, pills and heroin were seized.

"Detective DeRiggi exemplifies the mission and vision of this police department," MJPD Chief James Hambrick said. "Our staff is very dedicated and hard-working. I am very proud of him."
