The Wilson County School System is recruiting more than 100 teachers for the 2017-2018 school year.

There's a Career Fair scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday) at Lebanon High School from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., however, it you can't make it there you can go to the system's website to apply.

Teachers' beginning salary is up to $43,000, said Wilson Schools spokesperson Jennifer Johnson. She said she realizes the Job Fair announcement might be a little late and encourages those who might not make it to apply Thursday can go through the system's website at wilsoncountyschools.com to apply. You create an account, complete your application and apply for open positions on the site.

"We have great pay, benefits and bonuses," Johnson said.

These positions are available "across the district" from kindergarten to 12th grade.

"What's really great about our offer to teachers is our Learning Center day care," said Johnson. "It's on site. If a mom or dad wants to see their child during their break they can."

Additional benefits offered are employee medical benefits such as dental and life insurance, paid 100 percent.

Johnson said there are about 1,240 teachers employed in the system and with the opening of the new Springdale Elementary School in Mt. Juliet this brings a need for an additional 80 teachers into the mix. This number offsets those retiring and transferring there.

Johnson said there been a lot of work to get the system's salaries comparable to other systems.

Johnson stressed, "We have a strong school system with a family atmosphere and we still feel like a small town. This is a great opportunity."

"We are ranked incredibly high nationally and always at the top," she said.

Johnson noted the system realizes there are just graduated teachers who are looking for a home.
