A Lebanon man was killed in a single-vehicle accident early Sunday morning in which alcohol was believed to have played a part. The incident occurred about 5:30 a.m., Feb. 17, near 1201 Academy Road, Lebanon. Trooper Chad Bilbrey said in his report that Tyler B. McChurch, 29, of Lebanon, was driving a 2002 Chevy Tahoe SUV and was headed westbound on Academy Road when he crossed over the eastbound lane, overcorrected and went off the north side of the roadway. The vehicle hit a concrete culvert and overturned multiple times, Bilbrey said, coming to rest on its top. Trooper Bilbrey said in his report that alcohol was a contributing factor in the accident. He added that McChurch was wearing his seat belt. McChurch was a former football player at Lebanon's Friendship Christian School and at Cumberland University. Funeral services for Mr. McChurch will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22 at St. Stephen Catholic Community, 14544 Lebanon Road, Old Hickory. Services will be conducted by Father Pat Kibby. Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. Friday at Wilson County Memorial Gardens. Survivors include: Wife Alexis Stevenson McChurch, son Jackson McChurch, parents Dan and Debbie McChurch, brothers Mitch McChurch and Connor McChurch along with grandparents Joan Hagge and Dave and Janet Cavanaugh. Active pallbearers will be Jeff Poling, David Deffendall, Doc Reese, Taylor Vandever, Cody McCray, Nolan McCue, Adam Nischwitz and Josh Stevenson. Honorary: Kelsey Evert, Chris Lewis, Michael Shaw, Mike Derdak, Wayne Grimes, Ken Lukens, Del Merrit, fellow Cumberland University football team members and fellow Cumberland University Sigma Alpha Epsilon Brothers. Flowers accepted or memorials may be made a college scholarship fund for Tyler’s son, Jack. Arrangements by Bond Memorial Chapel, N. Mt. Juliet Road and Weston Drive, Mt. Juliet.
