By JENNIFER HORTON Chief Scott Bowen said officers responded to the Sonic Drive-In on West Main Street where the victim works to investigate the assault after the girl’s mother called police. The girl, according to a news release, told officers that she was jogging on the track at the park and noticed a turtle was in her path. She stopped to pick it up and take it back to the creek, she said, when two unidentified white males approached her from behind and hit her, knocking her down and causing her to become dizzy. The girl then went to Sonic and called her mom to tell her what happened, and her mom in turn called the police department to ask that officers check on her welfare. Officers and Wilson County Emergency Management Agency responded and found the girl suffered lacerations to her right brow and inner lip as well as scratches to her neck. A search of the park did not turn up any witnesses to the incident or suspects, Bowen said, and the girl was unable to give any further description of the suspects. The allegations made in this case remain under investigation, and Bowen urged anyone with information to call the Lebanon Police Department at 444-2323. “The park is an extremely safe place to go,” the chief said, adding that in his 20 years with the LPD he could only recall very few incidents reported there.
