New Winters Chapel AME plans additional ride to benefit member

New Winters Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church held a motorcycle ride to benefit one of its members, James “Slide” Robertson, about two weeks ago, but since then the man’s doctor Stanley Lee says his condition has worsened and he will need a liver transplant as well as a new kidney.

Grad rate keeps LHS on list

Less than 2 points kept Lebanon High School on the High Priority List of the Adequate Yearly Progress under the federal No Child Left Behind program.

That’s the word from the Tennessee Department of Education which released the annual report on Wednesday.

Fiddlers Grove Foundation gains not-for-profit designation

Fiddlers Grove Foundation, operators of Fiddlers Grove Historical Village, has received its 501c3 not-for-profit designation from the Internal Revenue Service, making donations to the pioneer town tax deductible.

When ground was first broken for Fiddlers Grove on April 17, 1991, it was operated by the Wilson County Fair Board. Some time later, a board was created specifically for organizing educational events and building preservation.

Wilson jobless rate at 9.6 percent

Wilson County’s unemployment rate for June increased by 0.4 percent to 9.6, up from the May figure of 9.2.

The county unemployment rates for June were released Thursday by the Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development.

The department showed a labor force of 57,390 in Wilson County for June with 51,870 of those employed. That left 5,520 unemployed.

Council considers, but does not pass, a reduction in force measure

Lebanon City Council considered on first reading an ordinance calling for a reduction in force of city employees at its regular meeting Tuesday night, then recessed until Monday, July 27, at 5 p.m. to finish discussing the matter.

The ordinance, as proposed, would eliminate 43 jobs. Upon passage on second and final reading, the ordinance requires that employees are to be notified that their positions are immediately abolished.
