Size keeps increasing
Nissan is still considering options related to their probable expansion in Wilson County, according to a local official.
According to Joint Economic and Community Development Board of Wilson County Director G.C. Hixson, his office is still in talks with a local real estate professional who is working with Nissan on expansion space that is reported to be near their existing 717,160-square-foot facility on Couchville Pike, near State Route 840 at the Nashville East Logistics Center.
"We continue to talk and hope to have their final decision in the spring," Hixson said Tuesday. "We hope to see it built and them in before the end of this year."
There was a big buzz about a pending expansion announcement year end 2015, things slowed down a bit because Nissan kept increasing the size of the facility that will serve as a customer service after-market parts venue, according to Hixson.
"They first talked about 500,000 square feet, then changed it to 700,000 square feet and now they are considering about 900,000 square feet," he said."They are redrawing the project."
Hixson added Nissan didn't want to be "caught in a too small building" in a few years and wants to build for the future. The parcel is 35 acres.
Nissan recently expanded into Smyrna to operate a battery plant there. Hixson said he's quite confident the expansion will take place in Wilson County.
"Year 2015 was a very good year for us," Hixson said."We are very proud of this county."
Last summer Wilson County approved tax abatements for Nissan as an incentive for the expansion.
