Mrs. Shafer, 100, of Lebanon died Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at the Quality Care Nursing Home. Born in Wilson County on October 7, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Sneed Dillard and Hattie Smith Dillard.
Mrs. Shafer worked at Welty's 5&10, and the Ben Franklin Stores for 28 years. She was a lifelong member of the Fairview Baptist Church and faithfully worked in the nursery for over 42 years.
Graveside services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, June 24 at the Wilson County Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Jimmy Gray officiating.
Her grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Visitation with her family will be held Saturday, June 23, from 4-8 p.m. and again on Sunday from 1-2:45 p.m. at the Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home on West Main Street.
She was preceded in death by 11 siblings: Ephram Otis Dillard, Julia Mai Dillard Moore Belcher, Rosie Dillard Shafer, Clara Dillard, Woodrow Dillard, Robert Dillard, Jennie Elizabeth Dillard Roberts, Ota Marie Dillard Corbin Shrum, Joseph Warner Dillard, Mildred Juanita Dillard DeArmond Fitton and William Edward Dillard.
She is survived by children: Linda Joyce Shafer Myers of Clarksville; Gloria Maie Shafer Gray (Richard) and James Anthony Shafer (Brenda) – all of Lebanon; grandchildren James Bruce Myers (Rebecca) of Portsmouth, VA; Joseph Carroll Myers (Lecia) of Ft. Benning, GA; Melissa Danielle Gray Kinton (Will) of Maryville Stephanie Nicole Gray, of Lebanon; Michael Scott Shafer (Tracy) of Carthage and Misty Dawn Shafer Odom (Prentice) of Lebanon. Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren and one great- great granddaughter as well as several nieces and nephews and a special friend -- Ms. John (Mary) Gray.
