Operation Dry Water set this weekend

Wilson County Lake Patrol Deputies will be patrolling Old Hickory Lake looking for BUI's. Also, special DUI saturation units will be out all weekend patrolling area boat ramps looking for intoxicated drivers.

Its not illegal for passengers in a boat to drink, but those passengers sometimes get behind the wheel of their car after returning from a day on the lake and we want everyone to know we are looking for that, too, said Lt. Steve Gatlin of the Wilson County Sheriff's Lake Patrol Unit. This weekend is about safety. Our goal is to educate the boating public. We will be out day and night looking for those who ignore the warnings to Never Boat Under the Influence. Our lake has been a safe one this year and we want to keep it that way.

Statistics show that more than 20 percent of boating fatalities are a result of alcohol use. Sun, wind, noise, vibration and motion intensify the effects of alcohol, drugs and some medications.
