Honoring those who answered the call PDF Print E-mail
Friday, May 25, 2012

This special holiday weekend is dedicated to those who have given their lives in military service to protect the values of our great nation.

They have died on battlefields across the world.

These men and women have made the ultimate sacrifice for us here in the U.S. and for others worldwide.

They were called to duty and answered that call admirably.

They deserve to be memorialized for their selfless acts, their willingness to serve and their courageous commitment.

Memorial Day was first recognized as Decoration Day. The special observance originated after the Civil War.

Monday, the last Monday in May, is designated as Memorial Day, a federal holiday. However, the weekend is regarded as the first holiday weekend of the summer and the beginning of the summer season.

We urge you to take just a moment during this holiday weekend to remember those who have served in uniform and have given their lives as a result of their service.

And please, too, remember those serving in our military today and ask for a special blessing of protection and guidance for them as they perform their duty, many in harm’s way.

Have a great holiday weekend. Be safe and enjoy your time with family and friends.
