LEBANON -- The family of the late Paul Petretzky will receive friends between the hours of 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7 at the Partlow Funeral Chapel.
Mr. Petretzky, 93, a resident of Lebanon since 2007, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011 at University Medical Center.
Born July 12, 1918 in Perryopolis, PA, he was the son of Rev. Basil and Anna Petretzky.
Mr. Petretzky joined Tennessee Eastman Corporation as a chemist in 1945 and retired from the Y-12 Plant of Union Carbide in 1983 as head of the Metallogaphy Laboratory.
Earning a B.S. and M.S. in Chemistry from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH, he was a member of the American Society of Metals, The American Chemical Society and the International Metallographic Society.
Relative to his work at Y-12, he authored and co-authored several technical papers. For his many years of dedicated service, a scholarship was awarded in his honor to a metallurgy student at the University of Tennessee.
He was active in the early life of the First United Methodist Church on Oak Ridge where he served in leadership roles in the church programs of education, missions, evangelism and history. For more than 30 years he was a member of the Chancel Choir.
He was an active member of the Oak Ridge Lions Club serving as President and other offices. Mr. Petretzky was also an active participant in the Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic for many years.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9 at the First United Methodist Church in Oak Ridge. Visitation from 12 Noon until service time at the church.
Services will be conducted by Pastor Stella Roberts with interment in the Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
Survivors include: his wife of 66 years Ruth Petretzky; daughters Nancy (robert) Caldwell of San Jose, CA, and Judee (Jay) Barry of Lebanon; granddaughters Jennifer (Chad) Brown of Rogers, AR, Melodee (Jeff) Barry-Conklin of Hendersonville, TN, and Alicia Caldwell of San Francisco, CA; great-grandsons Clayton and Caiden Brown and Ben Conklin; brother-in-law Allison (Peggy) Burton of Clinton; sister-in-law Maxine Burton of Billings, MT; nephew Richard Maggart of Oak Ridge; nieces Anne Maggart (Glen) Teasley of Knoxville and Darra Romick of North Canton, OH.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Basil and Anna Petretzky and sister Irene (Darrell) Romick.
