Peggy Jennings McKinney, 57

LEBANON -- A Celebration of Life service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, October 18 at the Immanuel Baptist Church for Mrs. McKinney, 57, of Lebanon.

Mrs. McKinney died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008, at Nashville’s Vanderbilt University Medical Center following a brave two-year fight with cancer.

Born November 29, 1950, in Davidson County, she was the daughter of the late Norman Dale and Nannie Lou Williams Jennings Sr.  Mrs. McKinney was a 1968 graduate of Lebanon High School and attended Volunteer State Community College.

She became a dental assistant with Dr. Armstrong and later with Dr. Bill Willis. She was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church.

Mrs. McKinney had a varied and successful professional career. She worked at Carroll Oakland Elementary as secretary and moved to a position with Cracker Barrel Old Country Stores in 1992.

She was promoted several times and lastly became National Programs Manager. She received the first Employee of the Year awarded at Cracker Barrel in 2003.

In 2006 she was named Volunteer of the Year by the Tennessee Restaurant Association for her work with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). Mrs. McKinney had worked with CASA for over ten years. She has served as Board Chairperson and as an advocate.

Her work affected many children’s lives in a positive way. Her last job was with the Lebanon Special School District as a teacher’s aid at Sam Houston Elementary School.

Peggy’s love for children was boundless and her grandchildren were encompassed by it completely.

Visitation will be at Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home Friday from 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. and on Saturday at Immanuel Baptist Church from 12 Noon until service time.

Services will be conducted by Rev. Pierce Dodson and Rev. Joe Coleman. Interment will follow at the Wilson County Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include: husband David Reed McKinney; children Jennifer Lynn Hashimura and her husband Kazunori of Tokyo, Japan; and Matthew David McKinney and his wife April Joy of Lebanon.

Also surviving are grandchildren, Emilyn Marie Hashimura, Ian Reed McKinney, and an unborn grandson on the way; sister Sylvia (Tim) Harper of Lebanon and their children Paula (Shane) Petty and Meredith Muhsman; and brother Buddy (Agnes) Jennings of Lebanon and their children Bubba (Betsy) Jennings and Stacey Buehler; father and mother-in-law, Dave and Katherine Reed McKinney of Lebanon; brother-in-law Dr. Roger McKinney of Lebanon and his children Josh (Trish) McKinney and Gabe (Jennifer) McKinney; brother-in-law Carl (Barbara) McKinney of Lebanon and their daughter Kate; sister-in-law Mary (David) Owens of Lebanon and their children, Joel (Erin) Owens and Evan Owens; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Special friends: CASA board members and advocate volunteers; Judge Barry Tatum, Laura Swanson, Lee Lyle, Susan Sutton, Pricilla Simpson and Nancy Fish, Sharon & Charles Johnson, Georgia & Rich Dressler, and Billy Mofield.

Active pallbearers: Carl McKinney, Dr. Roger McKinney, Buddy Jennings, David Owens, Matthew McKinney, Kazunori Hashimura, and Tim Harper.

Memorials may be made to the CASA of Wilson County, 102 East Main Street, Lebanon, TN 37087.
