Commanders force six turnovers --
LEBANON -- Friendship Christian forced six Northpoint turnovers and scored a pair of defensive touchdowns in the fourth quarter in Friday's 35-10 victory over Northpoint Christian in the first round of the Division II playoffs at Pirtle Field.
With the win, the Commanders improved to 10-1 on the season and earned a trip next week to Collierville to take on St. George's in the second round.
Nursing a 21-7 lead late in the fourth quarter, FCS got a 96-yard interception from Speedy Foutch with 3:17 left in the game, then :46 seconds, later Gage Bentley returned a tipped Trojan pass 48-yards for another score to ice the contest.
"We got 'em a little out of their comfort zone," said Friendship head caoch John McNeal, "I thought our kids did a good job with the scheme. Our coaches put in some good blitz packages and that really helped. We never gave 'em time to sit in the pocket.
"We had some breakdowns when we were in man and lost contain on the quarterback -- especially in the first half, but that's something I think we can get corrected."
Mikey Jones came up with a piar of first half turnovers, recovering a fumble and intercepting a Northpoint pass. Marshall Taylor had another interception for the Commanders.
Northpoint ended the season 7-4 overall.
