Lebanon Police and Public Safety took action when they witnessed two drones being operated over the Wilson County Fair on Monday night.
Public Safety Director Mike Justice said they weren't as worried about a potential terrorist threat as they were about general safety. "There have been incidents across the country where people have been injured when a drone is flying over a crowd and hits a power line or crashes," he explained.
Justice went on to say that he is not anti-drone, but that there is a time and place for that activity. "We are not against them for rescues or commercial filming. They have their place, but this is not the situation," he said.
The drones were flown over the midway area. Officers followed them from the fairgrounds to discover the operators were parked off-site.
In lieu of going to jail, the operators were issued two misdemeanor citations and will appear in General Sessions Court.
