Annual event to be rescheduled, food and clothing drive continues

Citing the threat of rain and high winds, organizers of the Possumtown Christmas Parade have postponed the event, which was originally scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 13.

Wilson County Commissioner and parade organizer Jerry McFarland noted the parade will be rescheduled, adding items are still being collected for people in need in Appalachia.

"We're still collecting food, toys and other items ... We are planning to supply 265 families with a large quantity each of good nutritious food, so if anyone would like to donate money, it will be spent on our food drive," McFarland said. "Of course, new or gently used toys and clothes are always needed. Our parade may be rained out, but we won't let it dampen the Christmas of those in need in Hancock County."

Donations may be dropped off at 5335 Coles Ferry Pike, and items will be accepted until the evening of Thursday, Dec. 17. If you need someone to pick up your donation, contact McFarland at (615) 330-8474.
