Event held Jan. 14 at CU's Baird Chapel
The Wilson Post takes great pride in announcing its second annual All Wilson County Football Team.
Joining with the Tyler McChurch Foundation, Cumberland University and Lebanon's Chick-fil-A, the 2016 honorees were recognized at a Saturday, Jan. 14 luncheon held at Cumberland's historic Baird Chapel.
All-county players received a t-shirt, wristbands, a personalized certificate while specialty award winners were presented with a commemorative souvenir football.
Sixteen players were recognized on each of the offensive and defensive teams while eight players were singled out for special awards.
Watertown High head coach Gavin Webster was named 2016 Wilson County Coach of the Year.
Webster led the Purple Tigers to a record of 10-2, the most wins in the county, and the most victories for the Watertown program in over four decades.
"We initiated the All-County team last year," said Post sports editor Tommy Bryan.
"Thanks to the Tyler McChurch Foundation, Cumberland University and Chick-fil-A, we put together a luncheon to celebrate the 2016 football season.
"It is my hope, sometime in the future we'll transition to a dinner, maybe have a speaker -- that sort of thing."
