Townsend hired at DAFormer Mt. Juliet Christian Academy head coach Paul Townsend has been promoted as the new head coach at Davidson Academy. Townsend, 43, will be taking over for Bill Alexander who resigned to take an assistant's position at defending 5A state champion Beech."I'm very excited and honored to be coaching at a great school with an excellent football tradition," Townsend said.Townsend had been hired as DA's defensive coordinator in June. This will be Townsend's second head coaching job as he was the leader of the MJCA football program for three years (2007-09). The Saints posted a 5-25 record in those three seasons.After resigning at MJCA, he went to Wilson Central for two years as the wide receivers coach and in 2011 was the freshman coach. Last season Townsend coached at Donelson Christian Academy while teaching at Pearl Cohn.Ironically, Alexander is also a former local head coach, having spent a season leading Watertown High in the 90s. Alexander, Beech Class of 1988, complied an 16-19 record at Davidson in his three seasons as head coach.He spent 19 years at Davidson in two different stints and was the offensive coordinator for the Bears Division II-A state title teams in 2005, 2006 and 2008. The Bears are coming off a 4-7 season.

MJCA hires Mike KittrellMike Kittrell, a long time youth football / baseball coach in the Mt. Juliet community, has been hired as assistant athletic director at Mt. Juliet Christian Academy. Kittrell began his association with the school three years ago when MJCA started a 5/6 grade football team and asked him to serve as the volunteer head coach.

We fell in love with MJCA from the start. My kids love going to school here and my wife, Tammy, and I felt like we were part of a big family from the first day we set foot on campus. Kittrell eventually assumed head coaching duties for the Saints middle school football and baseball teams.

Kittrell formerly worked for the Wilson County Sheriffs Department, MHC Kenworth, and most recently was employed by Central States Bus Sales. Among his other athletic department duties, Kittrell will coordinate football, baseball and softball development camps, as well as off-season baseball and softball tournaments for AAU and Travel Clubs on the MJCA campus.
