Powell throws three-hitter
MT. JULIET -- Clutch hitting and solid pitching helped lead Wilson Central to a 2-0 win at District 9-AAA rival Mt. Juliet Thursday evening.
Morgan Powell limited the Lady Bears to just three hits while striking out seven as WCHS improved to 16-14 overall and 4-1 in District 9-AAA.
Brittany Wiseman helped the cause with a solo homer in the top of the fourth inning, giving Powell the only run she would need. Wilson Central tacked on an insurance run in the sixth as Katie Eakes doubled home Kelsey Tomlin -- running for Powell -- who had singled.
Mt. Juliet Savannah Sanders took the loss, scattering seven hits and striking out 12 with no walks.
The Lady Bears will take a record of 15-3 overall (4-1 in 9-AAA) into weekend play at the Knox Gibbs tournament. Mt. Juliet will play host Gibbs at 7 p.m. and Marvyille at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at 9:30 a.m., Mt. Juliet squares off against Grace Christian to close out pool play.
Goodpasture 6, Watertown 2
WATERTOWN -- Cariona Hassell belted two home runs to lead Goodpasture to a 6-2 win over District 8-A rival Watertown High Thursday at Three Forks Park.
The Purple Tigerettes will be back in action Monday, April 14 as they travel to South Carthage to take on Gordonsville High.
