Many Wilson County residents drive down W. Baddour Parkway in Lebanon unaware of all one local facility has to offer.
LifeCare Family Services is located at 1420 W. Baddour and staffs licensed therapists and non-licensed (PhD and Masters Level) therapists who provide support for children, adults and families.
Himmat Victoria, LPC, spoke with The Wilson Post about her areas of expertise and helping people heal.
"In graduate school, I studied dance and somatic therapy. I found my passion for trauma recovery," she said. "I've always wanted to help people and contribute to the world. There is so much pain in this world. I feel it is very important for me to do what I can to help relieve some of that pain."
LifeCare offers psychiatric medication management, mental health counseling, case management programs, in-home therapy and more.
Himmat handles a number of cases, but specializes in somatic counseling and trauma recovery.
"I'm really PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) focused. When you hear the term PTSD, mainstream society thinks about veterans. The veterans have been through a lot of hard things, but it can also happen for anyone who has had a major trauma in their life like being the victim of a crime or a victim of physical abuse," she explained.
Sometimes helping a client means simply helping them breathe deeply again.
"When you are anxious sometimes the breath is the first thing to go," she said. "I would call that a body-based intervention."
Himmat most enjoys seeing her clients feel inspired to take control of their lives and healing process.
"When my clients are inspired enough that they are willing to make a change and start seeing results, there is nothing like that in the world for me."
