Wilson County has the distinction this year of enjoying a visit from Mrs. Haslam during its Day of Action at the Watertown Public Library.
We very proud to have Mrs. Haslam visiting within our United Way service area, said United Way of Wilson County President John McMillin.
Events will begin at the library located on the Watertown Public Square at 9:30 a.m. with food and a visit from Nashville Sounds Mascot, Ozzie. Mrs. Haslam will arrive about 10:45 for story time and to speak with local children.
We hope to have a full library and that a few folks will sign up to volunteer for Raise Your Hand Tennessee, an initiative to recruit mentors, readers and tutors for children, McMillin said.
The First Lady has been very generous with her time and is an incredible proponent of early learning and reading with children, McMillin said. This is a great opportunity to encourage our younger generation to be involved in reading. Children who read are significantly more apt to finish school and enjoy more success throughout their lifetime.
