REGION 4A -- Watertown downs Clay Co. 7-6

Friendship Christian battered Clarkrange pitching for 15 hits in Mondays 15-0 victory over the Buffaloes in the Region 4A baseball semifinal at FCS. The win gave the Commanders (35-2) the right to host Wednesdays region championship game against Jackson County -- a 6-4 winner over Trousdale County.

Both finalists will play in Fridays TSSAA sectional game -- the final hurdle for a return trip to Spring Fling next week in Murfreesboro.

FCS wasted little time getting started, scoring eight runs in the bottom of the first, then tacking on five more in the third.

Hunter Watts, Cale Mitchell, Caleb Snider and Connor Gaines each had a pair of hits for Friendship while Austin Godwin and Michael Hawks each had run-scoring hits.

Junior lefty Brennan Swindoll (11-1) started and picked up the decision with an each three innings of work. He struck out six and allowed just one hit. Kyle Wood and Stefan Remus each pitch an inning of scoreless relief.

Injury update -- Catcher Gunner Osborne was released from University Medical Center Tuesday morning after spending Monday night in the hospital. Osborne took a bad bounce off the neck in the top of the fifth inning when the Commanders were one strike from ending the game.

Osborne collapsed a pitch later and was taken by ambulance to the hospital for observation. The ball apparently struck him in the carotid artery, rendering him semiconscious for several minutes.

Region 4A softball:Friendship 14, Clarkrange 0LEBANON -- Friendship Christian will play for the Region 4A softball title tonight, but where and when was up in the air at presstime.

After winning their semifinal game 14-0 vs. Clarkrange Monday, the Lady Commanders (23-14) were waiting for the outcome of the Watertown vs. Clay County game on Tuesday in order to make travel plans.

A Watertown win would mean a host game for FCS, while a Tigerette loss would send the Lady Commanders to Clay County for the region finals.

Friendship Christianscored seven runs in the bottom of the third to break open Mondays win against the Lady Buffaloes.

Hunter Holland drove in five runs and picked up the pitching decision, throwing a five-inning one-hitter. Tana Whited added three hits while Mallory Johnson singled twice. Kelsi Dickey had a two-run double in the fourth and trotted home on a Kristian Watkins triple.
