Samuel Rex Shields

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 7 at the Partlow Funeral Chapel for Mr. Shields, 74, of Lebanon.

A veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from AT&T after 35 years of service, he died Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Nashville's Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

A member of Bartons Creek Baptist Church and Jesus is The Answer, Mr. Shields was a 1958 graduate of Lanier High School.

The family will receive friends 3-7 p.m. Friday and Saturday from 12 Noon until the funeral.

Services will be conducted by Pastor Charles McKnight and Pastor Robert Scales. Interment will follow at Wilson County Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include: his wife of 50 years, Martha Gail Anderson Shields; and children David (Callie) Shields and Beth (Richie) Bouton. Also surviving are grandchildren Samuel, Nathan, Kimberly and Larry Shields, Richard, Rex and Sara Beth Bouton; along with several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Howard and Sallie Wilson Shields; a stepbrother and a sister.

Family and friends will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers: Greg Tomerlin, Charles Cothern, Chris Bates and "WARC" Wilson Amateur Radio Club.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Wilson County Veterans Park, 228 East Main Street, #106 Lebanon, 37087.

Arrangements are in the care of Lebanon's Partlow Funeral Chapel.
