Judd Sellars, owner of Sellars Funeral Home in Lebanon and Mt. Juliet, recently completed the purchase of Alexander Funeral Home and Family Heritage Funeral Home in neighboring Sumner County.

Sue Alexander, the former owner of the Alexander and Family Heritage funeral homes, said she hand-picked Sellars to be the new owner of her 108-year-old family business, citing her desire to find a buyer who would "take care of my families that have entrusted me with their loved ones."

As Sellars was looking to expand, Alexander said she knew he was the right person to carry on her business.

"Sellars Funeral Home is a family owned business just like we are a family owned business, and we have a lot of the same ideas about how funeral services should be held and how funeral homes should be ran," she said. "Judd and his family are very honest and trustworthy people, and if I didn't feel that way then I would not have sold to them."

Sellars said he does not plan to change anything about the two Gallatin locations and hopes to continue all of the traditions and services that the Alexander family has established. Alexander and the rest of the current staff at Alexander Funeral Home and Family Heritage Funeral Home will continue to work at both locations.

"I am honored that Sue hand-picked me to carry on the great reputation that the Alexander family has established in the Sumner County area throughout the years," Sellars remarked. "Sue will remain the face of the business there, and it is my intention for her to continue running it. She has worked hard and is a woman of honor, integrity and dignity. I just want to make her proud."

Alexander added she believes the change in ownership could benefit the Gallatin community.

"Judd is a young man full of energy with a lot of grit and love for the industry," she said. "He truly cares about what he is doing. He may be able to offer additional services and options to future families that we have been unable to in the past."
