Seven local women are in Cleveland, Ohio, for the Republican National Convention this week.

Wilson County Republican Women at the convention include Senator Mae Beavers, Club President Julie Brockman, Mary Stimek, Karen Entz, Terri Nicholson, Betty Jackson and Donna DeSopo.

"Seven women out of our club are going, and Senator Beavers is the head of the Tennessee Delegation," Brockman said. "I believe she is the first female to be named. We are very lucky."

In order to be a delegate, Brockman said each had to pull a petition from Secretary of State Tre Hargett and get signatures to qualify to be put on the ballot.

They were then elected during the Primary.

"This is my first time going," Brockman said. "We are going to vote on our nominee. I'm so excited."

Sen. Beavers could be seen in the crowd on Fox News' "O'Reilly Factor" television program Monday night.
