About Sherry’s Run The mission of Sherry’s Run is to benefit those affected by cancer, with an emphasis on colon cancer. Sherry’s Run (www.sherrysrun.org) is a 501 (c) (3) organization. It was started in memory of Sharon “Sherry” Patterson Whitaker who died at the age of 44 from colon cancer. Donations are tax deductible and can be made online. Funds received serve also to help those locally who suffer with cancer. Organizers with Sherry’s Run have announced a new course design for the 5K Run/Walk which is slated for Saturday, Sept. 11. Scott Jasper, executive board member of Sherry’s Run, who heads up operations for the event, “We feel very fortunate that each year our attendance at Sherry’s Run doubles. Last year we had over 3,200 participants. To say the least we had a few growing pains. Since then we have been diligently working to enhance the 5K Run/Walk event.”To respond to participants’ needs, the Sherry’s Run course committee has established a new course which will take the run to a new level. “Sherry’s Run is one of Wilson County’s largest events. We are honored that the event has been so successful and are very excited about the future. We want to take the opportunity to be even better – to become a premier run – a destination for runners from across the state of Tennessee. We are enthusiastic about enhancing our run and want to meet our participants’ needs and make it safe and fun for them. This new course design takes us to another level – one which we hope will be a real crowd pleaser,” Jasper commented. The Sherry’s Run 5K course, which will still begin at the original Sherry’s Run Event Site, 623 West Main Street in Lebanon, will head east on West Main Street, travel north on North Greenwood Street, passing the historic Woolen Mills to U.S. 70 North By-Pass (also known as Baddour Parkway); then heading west on the By-Pass to North Castle Heights Avenue – traveling south to Hill Street. At Hill Street, runners and walkers will separate. Walkers will remain on North Castle Heights returning to the Sherry’s Run Event Site. Runners, on the other hand, will turn left onto Hill Street, traveling east again to North Greenwood Street, then south to West Main Street where they will travel west returning to the Runners Finish Line at the Sherry’s Run Event site. Please refer to the Sherry’s Run 5K Course Map for specifics on the website at www.sherrysrun.org.Jasper noted, “The folks at Lebanon Public Safety have been a great help to us. We thank them for their help with the design of new course and for allowing us to close certain streets in town to accommodate this event.” The 5K Run/Walk is the largest fund raiser of the year for Sherry’s Run. It is held annually the second Saturday in September (close to Sherry’s birthday). The Sherry’s Run Event Site is at 623 West Main Street, Lebanon.
