Keel asked for extra time for Public Works to do its own report. Public Works officials conducted counts on Feb. 15 and 17 for three separate intervals: 6 a.m. to 8 a.m.; 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and 4 to 6 p.m.

The count showed that 27.5 percent (247 of 899) of turns into the BP/McDonalds site from North Mt. Juliet Road on Feb. 15 were cut-through movements and 67 percent (222 of 331) of turns from the Old Pleasant Grove cul-de-sac were cut through movements. The 247 turns into BP/McDonalds from North Mt. Juliet Road were northbound left turns across three lanes of southbound traffic.

“I have written TDOT to let them know that the City does want this connection closed as a part of the work under the Road Safety project,” Keel said.

TDOT is also going to do a signal study to synchronize the signals from the I-40 ramp north through the northerly most access to the Lowe’s and Walmart site. That project should begin in late spring or early summer.
