Single-vehicle accident Sunday claims one

A Lebanon man was killed early Sunday morning in a single-vehicle accident that occurred on Highway 231 North near Hunters Point Pike.

The accident occurred at 4:37 a.m.

Trooper Jason Flatt of the Tennessee Highway Patrol said in his report that the victim, Charles Michael Rich, 45, of Lebanon, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck southbound on Hwy. 231. The vehicle left the roadway to the left, striking a mailbox and then a culvert. The impact caused the vehicle to go airborne. The pickup truck then flipped and landed on its roof.

The trooper noted that Rich was not wearing a seat belt. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Flatt also indicated in his report that alcohol may have played a role in the accident and a blood alcohol test was requested along with a drug test, although drugs were not believed to have been a contributing factor.
