WILMORE, KY -- Marty Owens sandwiched the first and last goals around a Brian McNamara score in eighth-ranked Cumberland's 3-0 victory Wednesday over Asbury University. The Bulldogs upped their record to 14-0-0 this season and posted their third straight shutout and sixth in the last eight matches

Owens collected his sixth and seventh goals of the season and McNamara added his team-leading 13th for CU.

Bennet Strutz registered his sixth shutout in goal for Cumberland and posted five saves. CU outshot the Eagles 21-9 in the match.

Elliot Goodwin played a through ball to Owens, who finished in the 31st minute to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage at intermission.

The Bulldogs broke through with a pair of goals in the final 20 minutes to put the match away.

Josh Armstrong's cross for a header by McNamara in the 71st minute gave the Bulldogs some breathing room and Owens finished the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 79th minute.

John Burns made nine saves for the Eagles (4-9-0).

Cumberland plays again Saturday at Shawnee State at 1 p.m. Central Time before returning home next week to face Campbellsville University Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 2 p.m.
