Bulldogs undefeated at 10-0-1
LEBANON -- Josh Armstrong scored in the first 10 minutes and he assisted on Brian McNamara's goal six minutes later, as Cumberland scored twice in the opening minutes and held off seventh-ranked Lindsey Wilson in men's soccer action Saturday, Oct. 3 at Lindsey Donnell Stadium-Kirk Field.

The Bulldogs (10-0-0, 3-0-0 Mid-South) remained undefeated and added to the best start in school history, defeating the Blue Raiders (10-3-0, 3-1-0) for the second time in three seasons.

CU won 1-0 versus No. 2 Lindsey Wilson in the semifinals of the conference tournament in 2013.

Armstrong netted his fifth goal of the year in the eighth minute on an assist from Elliot Goodwin and Armstrong and Valentine Murombo assisted on McNamara's ninth goal of the season in the 14th minute, giving Cumberland an early 2-0 advantage. The Bulldogs took that lead to intermission, taking four shots in the period compared to five for LWC.

Lindsey Wilson cut into the lead in the 63rd minute when Moustapha Fofana headed in Aleski Pahkasalo's corner kick. The Blue Raiders pressed for most of the remainder of the second half, outshooting the Bulldogs, 14-4, including four free kicks in the final third in the final 15 minutes, but CU's Bennet Strutz was up to the challenge, making six saves in net for Cumberland.

Yuta Nomura collected four saves for the Blue Raiders.

Cumberland heads to Division II Delta State Tuesday, oct. 6 at 3:30 p.m. and the University of the Cumberlands Saturday, Oct. 10.
