MT. JULIET -- Shaking off a short turnaround after winning the District 9-AAA tournament Saturday, Mt. Juliet's Lady Bears earned a trip to Henry County with a 4-3 victory over Clarksville High Monday in the opening round of the Region 5-AAA tournament.

Ninth grader Alyssa Costley went the distance in the circle for MJHS, limiting Clarksville to six hits. She struck out five and walked one. Costley helped her own cause with a pair of hits and drove in a run in the first.

Molly Back added a pair of hits and drove in a run while Makayla Draper had an RBI ground out.

Coach Brad Rowlett's team will take a record of 25-14 into Wednesday's 6 p.m. Region 5-AAA championship game at Henry County High in Paris.

The Lady Bears have now won 13 of their last 15 contests.

Wednesday's winner will host a Class AAA sectional game Friday while the loser goes on the road.
