Watertown plays in region finals -
CELINA -- Watertown High hitters pounded out 12 hits and stormed to a 12-2 victory over Clay County Monday in the opening round of the Region 4-A softball tournament.
Now 14-13 overall, Watertown will play in the region finals 4:30 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Goodpasture with a berth in Friday's Class A sectional already in the bag.
WHS scored a run in the top of the first, added three more in the second, one in the third, then padded their lead with a four-spot in the top of the fourth.
Ashlea Dickens paced the offensive attack with three singles, two RBI and scored two runs. Bailey Griffin added a triple and a double, with an RBI and two runs scored. Jada Moss drove in three runs with a pair of singles and scored once.
Leadoff hitter Kaleigha Carter set the table by reaching base three times with two singles and a walk. She scored twice, drove in a run and stole a base. Ridge Morgan contributed a two-run double and a walk in five plate appearances.
Alicia House started in the circle and went the distance, limiting Clay County to just six hits and striking out five. She worked around five walks in her 104-pitch effort.
