A meeting will be held at 8 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 27, in Lebanon City Hall to discuss preliminary details of a sports complex and hotel considering a Lebanon location.
The two-building facility is being proposed by GoodSports, out of Sarastoa, Fla., which has developed and operated hotels under the Focus Group banner across the country for more than 40 years.
The complex would consist of a 120-room hotel plus an adjacent field house to serve the $7 billion annual revenue amateur sports market, according to Larry Frankenbach, vice president of Vastland Realty. “Families across the country spend weekends at facilities like these (because of) tournaments and activities such as basketball, volleyball, cheerleading, and gymnastics,” he said.
“We’ve got a ways to go, but we are very excited about this,” Frankenbach told The Wilson Post.
The complex would be located on Legends Drive in the Cumberland Center.
Mayor Philip Craighead said the deal has been in the works for several months, and that incentives and funding will be discussed at Wednesday’s meeting.
“They are going to meet with the bond board and just try to get everything tied down so that they can see how they are going to do their financing. They want to be here,” he said.
Craighead believes having GoodSports locate in Lebanon will be beneficial to surrounding business owners as well. “Restaurants, shopping – businesses are going to want to come here and be close to them.”
