LEBANON -- Calamity Jane Coley recorded 19 points and seven rebounds and Yalonda Davis added 14 points, as No. 7 Cumberland started quickly and cruised to an 89-19 victory over Spelman College on Friday in the 9th annual Rosa Stokes Classic at the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center. It was the second win for the Bulldogs (10-0) over Spelman in the last three weeks after CU posted a 105-47 triumph in Atlanta on November 27. Coley finished 9-of-11 from the field while Davis made 6-of-7 shots. Cumberland shot 53 percent from the field and was 24-of-30 at the foul line as well, including 8-for-8 by Simone Ryan, who finished with 10 points.TaCouya Allen also had 10 points and London Elie and Tasia Blue each posted nine for CU, with Elie leading the way with seven rebounds along with Coley. Allen made two free throws and hit a pair of 3-pointers to give CU a 20-3 edge and Ryan hit six foul shots and a bucket before Banks’ trifecta. Coley netted seven of her nine points in the period over the final six minutes, including seven of the club’s final nine points of the half. The Bulldogs shot 52 percent from the field and were 11-of-12 at the foul line while forcing 17 turnovers by the Jaguars, which CU turned into 22 points. Cumberland faces Berea College on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the club’s final game before the Christmas break. |
