| Three MJ Bears named all-state |

Three members of Mt. Juliet’s 12-2 state semifinal football team have been named to the Class 6A all-state team by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association. They include: Senior fullback Contrez McCathern, a three-year starter for the Golden Bears who rushed for 1,684 yards on 199 attempts (8.9 per) and 21 touchdowns as a senior. A two-time All-District 9AAA performer, he played in the Toyota East / West All-Star game. In his career, he has rushed for right at 4,000 yards and 46 touchdowns. Senior strong safety Cody Carr, another three-year starter for Coach Roger Perry and a two-time All-District 9AAA selection. Carr finished the 2012 season with 141 tackles, two interceptions, six passes broken up, two fumbles recovered and seven tackles for loss. In his career at MJ, Carr has totaled over 300 tackles and five blocked kicks. Senior kicker Ryan Jenkins. Yet another three-year starter for Mt. Juliet, Jenkins was the District 9AAA Special Teams Player of the Year as a sophomore. In 2012, Jenkins converted 13-of-14 field goal attempts including a long kick of 53 yards. He has scored 250 points in his career including 31-of-35 (89 percent) on field goals and had 67 touchbacks this past season. |
