MJ sweeps at Lebanon PDF Print E-mail

LEBANON -- Mt. Juliet High swept a District 9AAA basketball doubleheader over Lebanon Friday at jam-packed Campbell Brandon Gymnasium.

The Lady Bears (14-6 overall) rode a 19 point effort from Sally McCabe to take the opener 51-36 victory -- securing sole possession of first place in the district with a 7-1 mark. Ronjanae DeGray added 16 points for the winners, including eight of 10 at the free throw line.

Lebanon slid to 6-2 in the league, 11-9 overall, shot less than 30 percent from the field and struggled at the free throw line -- connecting on just 10 of 19 attempts. Scottlyn Elie came off the bench to lead the Devilettes with 11 points while Julia Fox and Madison Sloan each had eight.

Mt. Juliet boys pulled away for a 60-47 victory over LHS in the nightcap in a game marred by three technical fouls, two on Lebanon.

Coach Troy Allen's team improved to 10-9 overall and 5-3 in District 9AAA. Sophomore Nolan Chowbay came off the bench to lead the Bears with 12 points while Thomas Sharpe added 11. John Mark Bell and Hunter Gilbert each added 10 points for MJHS.

Lebanon, now 8-12 / 4-4, was led by Zimmer Hunn with 10 points. DaShawn McMurry had nine and Yalen Reed eight.

LHS will be back in action Tuesday, Jan. 22 at home against Hendersonville High. Mt. Juliet will travel to Gallatin on Tuesday.
