WATERTOWN -- Exploding in the second half, Watertown High outgunned Clarkrange 51-35 to win the Region 4A championship Thursday night.

Coach Matt Bradshaw's squad led 22-21 at intermission, but ran away from the Buffaloes 29-14 the rest of the way.

Now 29-3 overall, the Purple Tigers will host Grace Baptist Monday at 7 p.m. in the TSSAA Class A sectional -- with the winner advancing to the state tournament in Murfreesboro.

Senior guard Macieo Gaines led Watertown with 14 points. Ty Jobe added 11 and Josiah Smith chipped in with eight. Ethan Moss finished with six points while George Theragood and Ben Bain had five each in the post.

Watertown reached the regional finals with a narrow 56-54 win over Jackson County in Tuesday's regional semifinal.

Until Thursday night, no Watertown boys team has ever played for a regional title -- much less won a regional crown.
