SPRING FLING -- WC softball eliminated

Knox Gibbs 4, Central 3 (8 innings)
MURFREESBORO -- Wilson Central’s run in the Class AAA state softball tournament came to an end Thursday morning as Knoxville Gibbs slipped past the Lady Wildcats 4-3 in eight innings at Starplex.
    
The loss wrapped up the second Spring Fling appearance in the history of the Lady Wildcats’ program with a record of 34-17.

Katie Eakes led the offense with a 4-for-4 performance as the Lady Wildcats finished with 12 hits, but left 10 runners on base. Kayla Varner and Kelsey Tomlin each had two hits.
    
Gibbs (48-5) moved on in the loser’s bracket to a late Thursday afternoon contest.

Soddy-Daisy 3, Wilson Central 2
Wilson Central fell into the loser’s bracket following a tough 3-2 loss to eight-time state champ Soddy-Daisy Wednesday afternoon at Starplex.
    
Central led 1-0 until Soddy-Daisy’s Savannah Moore and Abby Walker hit back-to- back solo homers in the fifth inning. S-D tacked on a run in the sixth and held off a late Lady Wildcat rally. WCHS stranded eight baserunners in the tight game.
    
Hannah Bodenhorn scattered six hits and struck out 10 to take the loss. Second baseman Claire Smith had two of Wilson Central’s five hits. Brittany Wiseman had a double while Kendall Eden and Kelsey Tomlin each singled.

Wilson Central 4, Maryville 2
The Lady Wildcats opened state tournament play Wednesday morning with a 4-2 victory over Maryville High at Starplex. Bodenhorn threw a five-hitter, striking out six Lady Rebels.

Katie Eakes had an RBI double and Smith added a double, then scored later on an RBI base on balls issued to Wiseman.
