LEBANON -- A suspect is dead after a high-speed pursuit by police that included shots being fired early Wednesday morning on Carthage Highway in the Sugar Flat Road area.
The name of the suspect has not been released until he is positively identified and next of kin is notified, said Kristin Helm, spokesperson for the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
“TBI got a call by the District Attorney’s office about investigating an officer-involved shooting in the 3800 block of Carthage Highway around 3 a.m.,” she said, adding “Neither officer was injured. One subject was shot and killed. He will be sent for autopsy.”
Various media reports said police were in pursuit of a vehicle and the driver of the vehicle lost control and wrecked. It is not known at this time what precipitated the pursuit.
A portion of Carthage Highway was closed while investigators worked at the scene.
In addition to TBI, the Tennessee Highway Patrol was also called to assist since the incident involved Lebanon police officers.
