Finding the perfect prom gown or wedding dress for $50 or less is practically unheard of; however, thanks to a generous donation, The Wilson County Help Center is offering just that.
Wilson County Help Center Executive Director of three years, Ben Spicer, was thrilled to receive a donation of "hundreds" of gowns from the White Room recently. The gowns included wedding, prom, bridesmaid and mother-of-the-bride styles in a variety of sizes. All of the donated dresses were new and never purchased.
"It is just tons and tons of dresses," Spicer said. "This gives us the opportunity to provide a prom that couldn't have happened because a girl couldn't afford a dress. Gowns are usually hundreds of dollars, but we have them here for $50 or less."
Spicer was quick to compliment The White Room on their generosity and community involvement. "The White Room is a big believer in community spirit and helping. They do so much and are very quiet about it, never wanting a lot of recognition," he added.
"These dresses will help the girl who couldn't go to prom at all or just someone who wants to be a smart shopper."
Funds generated through sales at the Wilson County Help Center help cover expenses such as staffing and utility bills and any profit goes back into helping others. They have programs which help the elderly and provide folks in need with emergency care boxes, hunger boxes, and more.
The Wilson County Help Center's hours of operation are Monday thru Saturday; from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Spicer said that all store merchandise - including gowns - is marked half-off on the first Saturday of every month.
