LEBANON -- Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 5 at the Immanuel Baptist Church for Mrs. Callis, 54, of Lebanon. A native of Wilson County, she passed away Sunday, May 3, 2009, at her home.
Born December 26, 1954, she is the daughter of Lillian Ewing Lening of Lebanon and the late Doyle Dean Lening Sr. Mrs. Callis was a 1972 graduate of Lebanon High School and attended Draughons Business College.
She was a secretary at Middle Tennessee State University in the Management & Marketing Department and was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher and choir member.
Services were conducted by Pastor John Hunn. Interment followed at the Fairview Cemetery in Norene.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years Thomas Callis; children Marianne Callis of Gallatin and Matthew Callis of Huntsville, AL; mother Lillian Ewing Lening; brother Doyle (Tish) Lening Jr.; father-in-law Charles Leslie Callis; brothers-in-law Edward (Brenda) Callis and Robert (Marilyn) Callis — all of Lebanon; along with nieces Kacie and Jessica Lening, Gloria Griffith and Tracey Swearns.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her mother in law, Jean Callis.
Honorary pallbearers: faculty and staff of MTSU Management & Marketing Dept., Fourth grade Sunday School teachers at Immanuel Baptist Church, Mary Frances Armstrong, Cindy Roskam and Peggy Camp.
Active pallbearers: Donald Eskew, Steve Armstrong, Joe Murphy, James Camp, Chris Mandrell, Ray Wallace, Jim Wright and Jimmie Washington. Memorials may be directed to the Immanuel Baptist Church Mission Fund or to the Boy Scouts of America.
