Central boys top McGavock
GLADEVILLE -- Gavin Johnson knocked down four 3-pointers and finished with 25 points as Wilson Central held off McGavock 71-67 Thursday in a TSSAA Hall of Champions contest.
The Wildcats (1-1) led 60-42 going into the fourth quarter as McGavock mounted a furious comeback try.
Kene Aruh added 13 for the winners while Cole Booth picked up nine points.
The victory was the first at WCHS for new coach Chris Carney.
Wilson Central will be back in action Monday, Nov. 21 at Marshall County High.

(girls) WCHS 72, McGavock 23
GLADEVILLE -- Wilson Central opened the game on a 19-0 run on the way to a 72-23 home win over McGavock in Thursday's TSSAA Hall of Champions game.
The Lady Wildcats (2-0) pulled ahead 34-2 after one period and 51-11 at intermission.
Recent Carson-Newman signee Addison Byrd frilled four 3-pointers and led all scorers with 26 points -- all in the first half.
Bailey Kaposy added 10, Piper Elrod had nine and ninth grader Lindsey Freeman chipped in with eight.
Wilson Central will be on the road Monday, Nov. 21 for a 6 p.m. game at Marshall County High in Lewisburg.

(girls) MJ Christian 36, Gordonsville 21
MT. JULIET -- Caitlyn Smith finished with 11 points and Amelia Lyons added 10 as Mt. Juliet Christian Academy racked up a 36-21 victory over visiting Gordonsville Thursday in a TSSAA Hall of Champions game.
The Lady Saints (1-1) led 10-3 early and 20-12 at intermission.
Marcella Gallione chipped in with eight points for the winners and Caroline Hibbett had four.
MJCA returns to action Monday, Nov. 21 at Forrest High School.

(boys) Gordonsville 67, MJ Christian 57
MT. JULIET -- D.J. Williams poured in four 3-pointers and finished with 28 points leading Gordonsville to a 67-57 road win Thursday over Mt. Juliet Christian Academy in a TSSAA Hall of Champions contest.
The Saints fell behind 22-15 after one period and trimmed the lead to 33-27 at intermission.
Coach Paul Christensen's team closed the gap to 46-44 after three, but the Tigers closed out the game on a 21-13 run.
Logan Anderson connected on six 3-pointers and finished with 18 points to lead MJ Christian.
Tyler West had 10 and Preston Sloan eight.
MJCA returns to action Monday, Nov. 21 at Forrest High School.

Saturday schedule --
Watertown High will host DeKalb County High in a 6 p.m. doubleheader Saturday, Nov. 19.
